‘TRANSCENDING’
This series explores the transcendence of presence, moving beyond outer appearances to reveal the inner world of thoughts, emotions, and feelings. It's an extension of the ideas I explored in my painting series 'Presence and Absence', where I sought to bypass the obvious and tap into the subtle essence of being. The works are primarily painted woodcarvings and the medium itself provides a sense of certainty. The colour scheme is reduced to black and white which conceptually connects two mediums. The combined techniques - chainsaw, chisels, files, and sandpaper - heighten the sense of transcendence, creating a sense of tension and release. Creating these pieces was a journey of discovery, with each work emerging in waves amidst other projects.
